Spring Term 2009

We have now been awarded the enxt Leaf in our healthy Schools Campaign and seem to be going from strength to strength.  The Upper Juniors are now working on some new playground initiatives to help us all have safer and happier play-times (Teachers too?) Their ideas will be put before the Schools Council in thier first meeting of 2009.

Lots more pictures available in the Gallery!

This was great success and a gallery of pictures will shortly be available on the Home page. All pupils took part in 6 different activities which were taken from a total of 10 activities on offer throughout the day: windmill making; tai chi; skipping; dance ; yard games; police visit, fire officer visit, dental health, food tasting, eco-games, tree workshop and bug busting! We also held a mass-skip in aid of the British heart Foundation at lunch time over 80 upeople young and not-so-young took part in a simultaneous skip! Donation will be collected and in this way we hope to say a small thank you to the BHF for enabling us to take part in the Heartstart program of lessons which teach our pupils emergegncy life saving procedures.

The day ended with a magic show from the Don't Touch, Tell team when the community were invited to share with us in some healthy food and be reminded of this important lesson. We could not have provided so many fantastic activities without the help of many members of the local community, so our grateful thansk go to all those involved - you know who you are! Here are just a few of the many photos taken - full gallery available from the Home page.

In 2003, Ysgol Gellifor won its first 'leaf' as part of the Healthy Schools scheme.

We are currently attempting to win our second leaf and on this page you will read about activities that try to promote health and well being here at the school.

Summer 2008 - we are working steadily to collate the evidence needed for the three topics we have chosen to embrace for our second phase: the school environment - gardens, toilets, yard adn field to name a few; physical fitness - clwb dal i fynd, after school clubs and Health related education; ESDGC (Education for sustainable development and global citizenship - local community work adn eco-schools work! The work is all being done as part of our everyday life here at school, but of course we need to collate evidence to prove it. The culmination of this work, will be a 'Good for me, Good for the Planet' day on Thursday 6th November 2008. Lots of activites have been arranged for the whole school and we look forward to sharing more about this with you all in due course.
