History Presentations: February 6th was the culmination of several weeks of hard work for Years 5 and 6. They had been given the task of making a presentation about life in 1920s. It was up to them to organise their group with Chair and Editor, up to them to choose their topics and then to investigate and present their findings. Some of the pupils also wrote letters to people they wished to invite to watch. They then decided on the guest list for themselves! Two groups presented in book form, two as wall displays and two through Power-point. I was immensely proud of them all: their skills in organising and presenting could not be in doubt and their confidence with delivery was a pleasure to observe. A full gallery of the afternoon's event is on the Home page and I do encourage you to take a look - the serious faces and intent expressions show clearly that they are all motivated and enjoying what they are doing even if it was 'a little frightening'.

Chinese New Year: January 26th - we have had quite a full week of craft activities on this theme and these culminated in a 'party' on Thursday. Auntie Jill was instrumental in organising some traditional games which resulted in a lot of squeals and laughter and then Ms Helena helped with setting out the food.
Sam, " The grass jelly drink was OK but I really did not like the soya drink."
Ellie, " Well it was all very different but I tried everything without spitting it out!"
Ieuan," I think I would starve to death if I lived in China!"

2008-2009
Welcome to everyone especially the new families who have joined us this year. We will continue the practice of starting each day with a personal timetable of Basic Skills activities and I am sure we will all settle in really quickly. During the year we will be looking at a variety of topics, but the main ones for Years 5 and 6 in the afternoons are as follows:
History: Contrasting two periods in the twentieth century - the time just after the First World War and the period following the Second World War.
Geography: Environmental change / China
Religious Education: Shabbat / Do we have to die? (multi faith perspective / the Parables
Music: Petroushka by Stravinky (amongst others!)
Summer 2008:Personal and Social Education
One of the highlights of the term in Years 5 and 6, has been the Heartstart programme which we have delivered to the pupils. I am thrilled that all Year 5 pupils successfully gained their Level 2 certificates. For this they were 'assessed' by a member of the St John's Ambulance Brigade and they had to demonstrate how to deal with choking, serious bleeding and the conscious and unconscious casulty. Year 6 went on further and learnt how to give CPR. For this we were lucky to obtain 12 manekins from the British Heart Foundation so everyone was able to learn in a really hands-on fashion. Successful completion of this part of teh course gave them a Level 3 certificate.
2008 has started off really well in Class 3, as we had two new members of the class to welcome. Tom has joined us in Year 4 and has already made some good friends. I am really proud of you all, for the warm welcome he has received.
It is also our turn to play hosts to Polo the guinea-pig this term. Hamish took him for his first 'weekend in the country' last weekend and he returned looking well fed and rested - although Hamish looked equally well-fed but exhausted from all the responsibility of looking after Polo!
So if you feel you can provide a weekend retreat for a most handsome rodent, please sign the list in the Entrance Hall.

During November, Years 5 and 6 went to Dangerpoint in Talacre. We spent a morning learning about staying safe in a variety of different contexts. Areas were set up as a kitchen, a train station, a shop, the beach and many others and we even learnt about staying safe when we use the Internet. Can you spot the dangers in these pictures - you should find over a dozen altogether! Click here to see the PowerPoint Presentation.
