Classwork: This term Years 5 and 6 are revising the use of the past tense and along the way they are looking again at all the weather phrases they learnt in years 3 and 4. Having trawled the NGfL web site, we found a fun game which would help with this topic.

Welsh Revision Booklets
The home/school Welsh revision books sent home earlier this term, are now available on line and interactive with sound on the NGFL website. Click the following link: http://www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk/vtc/ngfl/wsl/hawdd/menuCychwyn.htm
X Factor - A Welsh Perspective
Children in Years 5 and 6 are gripped by the latest series of the X-Factor. One of the competitiors is Welshman Rhydian, who is one of the favourites.
In this months Bore Da, he is interviewed and the children have been revising their language patterns while reading the questions in the interview and thinking up some of their own. They also watched some footage of him singing in the competition on the interactive white board.
Eisteddfod Llandyrnog Welsh Written Work
Pictured below you will see a display of Welsh written work. All of these pieces were either placed or awarded first class. As you can see, there are many of them, showing that the children have shown a degree of aptitude with their Welsh writing. Long may it continue!
Eisteddfod Llandyrnog - A Welsh Festival
Once again, the school had some success at Llandyrnog Eisteddfod and we were praised highly for the extent of our involvement, for the behaviour of the children and also for the impressive appearance of the children. It is good to hear that the school is sending positive messages into the community so I’d like to thank all the children who competed and to their parents for bringing them. Frankie was awarded 1st place for her written work with Isaac 2nd and Dominic 3rd.
The two recitation parties were awarded equal 1st and Toni and Frankie were awarded 2nd and 3rd respectively for their individual recitations.
Infants’ Jamboree
On Tuesday morning, the infant children attended the Jamboree at Denbigh Leisure Centre. The children were really excited particularly when Martin Geraint soaked them with his giant water pistol and encouraged some quite realistic impressions of farm animals. Aunty Sue and Miss Adie performed a spectacular dance routine and it was nice to see Aunty Sue eventually getting in time with the rest of the participants.
Welsh Home School Books
We have provided each of the children with a home school Welsh revision book, which is a great way for us to build on our home school links. The book summarises the language patterns taught in each year group. It is also an ideal tool for parents to use to help the children with their Welsh and helps us fulfil our ambition to create bilingual children. Soon, the workbook will be available interactively at www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk, where words and phrases will be sounded out in order to assist parents. I am assured it will be put online in the near future. Hopefully, your child and indeed yourselves will enjoy working on the various language patterns. The book should be kept in each child’s reading folder, so it can be easily accessed.
Welsh Language Magazines
Bore Da and Wcw As you are probably aware, we strive to develop bilingualism in the children wherever we can. This manifests itself in the use of incidental Welsh during lessons, by giving the children opportunities to explore and appreciate their heritage, through dedicated Welsh lessons as part of the National Curriculum and also through our involvement in the Llandyrnog and Urdd Eisteddfod. To complement this priority of ours there is an opportunity for them to purchase magazines for them to enjoy and also build on their Welsh. ‘WCW’ is a magazine for the infants and ‘Bore Da’ is for the juniors.
County Champions!
A very pleasant afternoon was spent at Ysgol Borthyn when all pupils from Year 6 plus Frankie attended the Ruthin Welsh quiz. Ysgol Gellifor entered four teams and we were delighted to hear that we had come 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. They had to ask and answer questions, construct sentences and then perform a short play. Pictured are the winning team of Celine, Sam, Elin and Suzi constructing their sentences. The winning team then went on to the County Final in Denbigh.
In a closely fought competition, the finalists finished out on top once again and have been crowned County champions, beating Penmorfa, Llywelyn, Frongoch and Caer Drewyn. We are all extremely proud of their achievement. They were absolutely fantastic! You will see them pictured above, receiving the trophy from ex-headteacher of Ysgol Gellifor, Gwilym Luke Jones.
