Spring 2009: The Upper Juniors have started the year by studying the Jewish (and Christian) Creation story. They had a lively debate before committing some of their thoughts to paper:

" I think the Universe came from the Big Bang, but our world came through a Black Hole that stopped moving and all the dust and rocks came together and made he Eatrth."    Gordon

"I think that God imagines what is to happen, and one day he imagined a world called Earth"    Ellie

"I think that there was a shooting star then a big bang creating the planet Earth"     Molly

" I think the scientists are right and that there was a big boom in space and Earth was a tiny part of the debris from the explosion. Particles from the explosion had bacteria and that formed life."    Zak

They also came up with some fascinating questions:

Will we ever really know how the world came to exist?

Who created God?

Why isn't there a simple answer which everyone could believe and know for sure?

How did humans become so clever if they came from cavemen first?

Christmas: thank you to the parents and children who came to the Community CHristmas Service and took part with confidence and energy. WE also held our own Christmas Service on the last day which gives children the opportunity to go to church as part of a congregation rather than as performers. The Teachers read the Bible passages and Year 6 said the prayers. The feeling which pervaded this service was wonderful and the service was a real plesaure to take part in. Also thanks to the musicians for accompanying us so well.

Autumn Term: Our Harvest Festival was held again in church, but this time at Llanbedr's St Peter's as our usual venue is having a rfurb. We had all taken part in making this year's offerings: the Infants made biscuits from Fair Trade ingredients (300!) , the Lower Juniors made baskets from recycled milk containers and the Upper Juniors printed labels onto recycled card. Year 6 discributed these gifts to our local community. During the following week we received numerous letters of thanks whch were both unexpected and a delightful lessons for the children in community spirit and good manners! Thank you Gellifor!

Summer 2008: "In our assembly we got the 'Use Less Electricity' message across by doing a play staring the members of the Eco-Committee. We decided to use this method because we thought it would get the message to the little ones easier than trying to explain it and complicating every thing". By Isaac

..............................

Years 5 and 6 have also been continuing their work on the deeper questions in life: Why do bad things happen to good people?

...........................

Forest Gump famously said "Life is like a box of chocolates". What do our pupils think?

"Life is like a trampoline because it is full of ups and downs."by Frankie.

"Life is like a hurricane because just when you think everything okay you realise that you were in the eye and it all goes down hill again." by Isaac.

"Life is like the weather because it can be stormy and hectic but it can also be calm, sunny and happy." by Jack

"Life is like a plane because you never know what's going happen or where you might end up," by Kyran.

"Life is like a stone because in places it is rough and in other places it is smooth," by Oliver

"Life is like a movie because there is sad times and happy times and they are normally unpredictable.'' by Dominic

"Life is like a bowl of Jelly Bellies because there is a load of different ones and everyone is different just like us!" by Keeley

"Life is like a multicoloured piece of string because it has a start and an end and all sorts of different things happen with different moods in the middle,"by Thomas

Years 5 and 6 have recently been asking themselves some very searching questions. This week we discussed:

"Is it ever alright to tell a lie?"

"I think it is OK if it is a nice lie" Matthew

" Some people believe that it is never OK to tell a lie because it might hurt people's feelings" Kieran

"It is OK, if it is a secret-type lie and only now and then" Geraint

"Others think that telling a lie is never OK because it can bring trust levels right down and destroy friendships. It can also confuse what is real and what is not. Fairness is another issue because when people play fair you can trust them." Sam

"It would be OK to tell a lie to a friend like this: if your friend was wearing a skirt that you did not like, then instead of telling her, I would say 'I am just going to the shops' so I could just get away from her" Nia

After a lot of debate, the general opinion was that telling a lie to save a life would be OK, or to get you out of real danger. However, telling a lie to get out of trouble was not OK and just showed that you were a coward if you did not own up to something. All agreed that if no-one ever told a lie, people would be more careful about what they said and the world might be a better place.

Crusaders’ Performance - Dec 07

This Christian group once again got their message about the real meaning of Christmas across with their annual puppet show which delighted both Infants and Juniors alike. The performance was entitled, ‘A Not Very Boring Night’ and told the nativity story through the eyes of the shepherds.

Whole School Assembly - Nov 30th

mini-img_0823.jpg

Reverend Richard took our assembly this morning and spoke about advent and equated having to wait a long time for something to Christians waiting for the birth of Christ. A number of children were asked to help him get his message across and Hamish, Olivia, Oliver, Lauren, Yana and Eleri did so capably.

What a lovely service we had on Tuesday in Llangynhafal Church for our Harvest Festival. The children sang and recited with enthusiasm and confidence and we celebrated Harvest in style. Many thanks for the contributions given, which will be forwarded to Plas Bellin Hall’s ‘Care of the Family’ charity. It was particularly pleasing to hear that the children’s singing was praised showing that the old Year 6’s voices have been replaced by new ones!

Whole School Assembly  - Oct 07

We were joined by Rev. Huw Butler and the new vicar Rev. Richard, for our assembly. They spoke about Praise and taught us all a new song which was enjoyed so much that the children have asked for it to be included in our Harvest Service next week.

Class C assembly - Oct 07

We were treated to an assembly given by pupils in Class C (Years 3 and 4) They spoke about the importance of saying positive things rather than negative and the way that words spoken without thinking can be very hurtful. They spoke clearly and I certainly had positive comments to say about their performance. It was a pleasure to welcome so many parents in the hall to share our assembly.
